Three Building Blocks That Motivate Employees
According to Sindell (2012) from Psychology Today, there are three building blocks that motivate employees.
- Security
- Identity
- Stimulation
Within the context of security, there are two sub factors that are important to employee motivation: compensation and job security. Regardless of how the economy is doing, employees like to work for a company that is thriving and who know their work is adequate enough.
Employees are driven by the need to affiliate with things they care about. Therefore, working for a company that an employee is proud of can increase motivation. This creates an identity with the company for the employee, so they can be proud of their work.
Employees look for new and exciting opportunities in the workplace that allow them to grow. Stimulation through new projects and new skills motivates employees to build their repertoire of knowledge.
