Quote: Readiness for opportunity makes for success. Opportunity often comes by accident… readiness never does. (Samuel Rayburn)
Leah joined On Purpose Leadership in May of 2006 as an intern responsible for marketing and communications, as well as event planning. She recently graduated from the University of Utah in Salt Lake City with a Bachelor of Science degree in marketing this past May. Before joining On Purpose Leadership, Leah attended the University of Utah as an international student on a swimming scholarship for four years. As a swimmer, she holds numerous records for the Utes and also helped her team earn a Mountain West Conference Championship title in February of 2006. Before heading to Utah, Leah attended Walter Murray Collegiate in Saskatoon while swimming for the Saskatoon Goldfins Swim Club. She is a junior national and youth national finalist as well as a Canadian national qualifier. As a full-time student participating in a successful Division I athletic program, she developed valuable skills in time management and organization which have aided her development in event planning. As a member of the Ute’s Swim Team, Leah was a positive leader who easily recognizes the value that is added to both teams and organizations when individuals work together. Leah was a Dean’s List and Honour Roll student at Utah. During her four years there, she was named to the Mountain West Conference’s Scholar Athlete List each year. During her time at Utah the Ute Women’s Swimming Team was given the honour of being named an Academic All-American Team. Before graduating from University, Leah’s work experience included two summer student positions with a local Saskatoon marketing firm, Heyday Communications. At Heyday she was given the opportunity to gain experience in marketing and communications and to learn how much she enjoyed this field. Working with On Purpose Leadership and the Saskatoon Centennial Project has given Leah the opportunity to prove that her outgoing attitude, strong work ethic, and ability to handle stress well are extremely beneficial to her role in the Centennial Celebrations this year. Leah has played a pivotal role on logistics for four events: Centennial in motion Dance Party, Saskatoon Harvest Fest, Celebrating Our People at TCU Place, and The Saskatoon Whiz Quiz. Leah has also worked closely with Colleen Gnyp on the marketing and communications for each Centennial event. Her dedication and flexibility makes it easy for her to adapt to the constant changes involved with event planning. Leah has been the project lead on the Economic Developers Association of Canada 2007 Conference project and has supported the 2007 Saskatchewan Marathon, and Meewasin Valley Authority – Cameco Riverfront Campaign She was also the lead on the Road Map 2020 Conference project.
